RAILROAD SIGNALS of the U.S.

BAILEY'S WYE
Railfan Guide
Baltimore MD

Bailey's Wye in downtown Baltimore is one of the more active railfan locations around.  Almost everything coming in or out of Baltimore goes through here.  Exceptions are trains headed to the Curtiss Bay area coming from the south side, and trains in and out of the Canton/Penn-Mary area and heading north.

The Camden line MARC trains pass by here heading in and out of Camden Station, as well as heading over to Riverside for storage and service.

Parking is not an issue unless there is a game going on at one of the two stadiums, so check the Oriole and Ravens schedule before heading down here for pictures.

Pictures with a red tag were taken by Michael Watnoski.

1      A signal bridge with three CPL's, for EB traffic headed to Riverside (right signal), Camden (left signal), or through the tunnel (middle signal).

2      These two dwarf CPL's are probably the favorite of most signal fans, and are easy to access being right off Warner St.  They control movements out of Camden Station heading west (or south if you prefer) to DC.

A passing Light Rail train, and the view from here looking towards Riverside.

A local freight with an SW at both ends coming out of Riverside on a nice sunny afternoon in July.

4      A high CPL on the west leg of the wye, for EB traffic heading towards Philly.

5     Seems like an odd place to place a high signal, after the split on the northside of the wye... for WB trains headed towards DC.

6      A CPL dwarf on the east leg of the wye, for EB movements coming from Riverside, and a DC bound MARC train.

7      Two CPL dwarfs controlling movements from the wye converging into the single track leading to Riverside.

8       A high and dwarf CPL controlling movements into the single track leading to the wye, for trains coming out of Riverside.
